Nothing compares to the joy of pairing a good cup of coffee with a little homemade treat. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate menu or a beautifully arranged dessert table. Sometimes, the simplest combinations, such as sweet dates and crunchy peanut butter, are the ones we return to most often.
A Little Fun Treat For Your Coffee: Dates and Peanut Butter
Today I’m gonna talk about my latest addiction, yes, apart from getting dressed up (pun intended). This addiction is about a date, or a couple of dates if you prefer. And it’s about peanut butter.
Lately, I’m in love with my newest coffee companion: the delicious, nutrient-packed date with peanut-butter snack. A fun and easy-to-make coffee-time snack. It’s a wonderfully uncomplicated combination that takes just a few minutes to prepare, but turns an everyday coffee break into something a little more special.
Why Dates and Peanut Butter Make Lovely Coffee Partners

Sweet dates, especially Medjool dates, have a naturally rich, caramel-like sweetness. Peanut butter brings a creamy texture and a roasted, nutty flavor. Together, they create a delicious blend of contrasting flavors that works particularly well alongside the bold taste of espresso.
Dates are a good source of fiber, while peanut butter contains protein and fats. A combo that offers more than just sweetness alone.
Except for rich flavors, what I personally like about this combination is its simplicity. No baking, no complicated preparation, and no long list of ingredients. A simple, easy-to-go snack.
My Easy Dates and Peanut Butter Snack Recipe
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1–2, depending on appetite
Difficulty: Very easy
Ingredients
- 2 dates, pitted
- 2–4 teaspoons of peanut or almond butter, or any nut butter of your choice.
- A cup of your favorite freshly brewed coffee
These quantities are a suggested starting point, so feel free to adjust them to your preference.
How to Make It
1. Prepare the dates

Remove the pits of Medjool dates, opening them gently along the side.
2. Add the peanut butter

Spoon a little peanut butter into each opened date, or serve the dates alongside a small bowl of peanut butter for dipping. No need to make the presentation perfect; this is an everyday treat, so take it casual and easy.
3. Make your coffee

Brew your favorite cup of coffee. I’m pairing mine with an espresso shot. Today it’s an illy Classic Roast blend. Trust me on this heavenly combo.
4. Take a moment to enjoy it

Put all of your worries, and especially your phone, aside for a moment, and relish your sweet break. Sometimes, a small pause in the day is all the ritual you need.
Which Coffee Goes Best with Dates and Peanut Butter?
I personally enjoy this sweet treat with my espresso.
The concentrated flavor of an espresso shot balances the nutty, savory-sweet flavor of peanut butter, enhanced by the rich sweetness of the Medjool date.
However, you don’t necessarily need to stick to espresso. Try other combinations as well.
- Americano: A longer, gentler coffee that lets the sweetness of the dates come through.
- Cappuccino: A creamy pairing for those who enjoy milk-based coffee.
- Filter coffee: A relaxed option for a slower morning or an afternoon break.
The best pairing is ultimately the coffee you prefer.
A Small Ritual Worth Keeping
At Big Red Cuppa, I love the idea that coffee is about more than what’s in the cup. It’s about the little things around it. The aroma, the snack we reach for, the cup we choose, the light coming through the window. The company we opt for with our coffee and the few minutes we allow ourselves to slow down.
Dates and peanut butter may not be an elaborate recipe, but they remind me that everyday pleasures don’t need to be complicated.
So, the next time you prepare your coffee, try pairing it with this simple homemade snack. You might discover a new favorite coffee companion.
~ Until the next cuppa, enjoy the little rituals.
